What are the responsibilities and job description for the PUBLIC SAFETY RECORDS SPECIALIST position at Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA)?
WORK OBJECTIVE
Under the direction of the NFTA Chief of Police or his/her designee, performs records maintenance and clerical support relating to the operation of the Transit Authority Police Department.

· Maintains all arrest records, offense/incident files, property files and court notices and dispositions.
· Serves as a liaison to all court clerks, i.e. City, county, family court, etc.; codes and enters all reports into the computer.
· Expedites the process of police reports through composition and disbursement.
· Prepares statistical reports in a timely manner.
· Conducts computer and file searches.
· Reviews police reports and prepares statistical information for automation.
· Responds to specific requests for assistance in investigations for staff and other departments.
· Summarizes and assembles reports and information required by the Police Chief and organizes materials and data to assist in report generation.
· Receives and screens telephone calls, greets visitors and provides information requiring a broad knowledge of department programs, operations, policies and procedures.
· Processes and maintains payroll time sheets for the department, including maintenance of leave requests with regard to attendance policies of the NFTA and contractual agreements.
· Performs all other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Excel and Central Police Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or equivalent. Two (2) years of work experience in a law enforcement agency and/or working with law enforcement sensitive information preferred. Candidates must successfully pass a fingerprint-based background investigation for security purposes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Task involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and /or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
