What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjunct Instructor - French position at Niagara University?
Job Summary:
The Department of Modern & Classical Languages has an opening for a part time instructor to teach two sections of French 101 - Introductory French in the Fall 2025 semester, beginning Monday, August 25, 2025. The schedule for the three classes is: FRE 101A, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10:05 am - 11:00 am; and FRE 101B, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 11:10 am - 12:05 pm. However, the times could possibly be adjusted.
Essential Duties:
Use a communicative approach to the teaching of a foreign language, using the target language as much as possible, with minimal English for clarification of some grammar points.
Prepare daily lesson plans and activities using a textbook that engage students in their study of beginning French, following a syllabus provided by the Department Chair.
Prepare and grade chapter exams and quizzes, with resources provided by the textbook company; manage an online program for daily homework; and evaluate student performance.
Maintain a class record and keep attendance.
Be available for students by appointment to help them with any specific problems they might be having with the course material.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Native or near native French fluency;
Thorough knowledge of subject matter;
Ability to plan and present instructional material in a clear, logical and concise manner;
Ability to maintain proper teacher-student relationship;
Sound professional judgment;
Initiative and resourcefulness
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in area of specialization preferred.
