What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part time Writing Professional Tutor position at niagaracc-suny?
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), the Professional Tutor is responsible for providing academic assistance and learning-centered tutoring in the specific discipline to NCCC students. The tutor will be responsible for maintaining a record of each student tutored (appointment-based and walk-ins). All employees are expected to support the mission, vision, values, and goals of the Academic Center for Excellence and SUNY Niagara. Professional Tutors with a strong background in writing will be responsible for assisting students with written communication skills (including, but not limited to, ENG or LIT courses). Tutors will help students understand the writing process, how to write thesis statements, how to organize and develop ideas, how to incorporate and cite research effectively (MLA, APA, & Chicago-Style), and how to correct papers for sentence fluency, grammar, punctuation and diction.The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For a Bachelor’s degree or lower the rate of pay will be $21.22 per hour. For a Master’s degree or higher the rate of pay will be $23.34 per hour.The Academic Center for Excellence’s hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 8am – 9pm; Friday 8am – 4pm; Saturday 11am – 3pm.Maximum number of hours for employees with more than one part-time position at the college may vary.
