The Railbike Team Lead will oversee the daily operations of the railbike tours at Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad, ensuring tours run safely, smoothly, and on schedule. This individual will supervise the railbike team, assist in staffing, and actively participate as a railbike tour guide. This position is seasonal, starting mid-March and running through October, with varying schedules requiring weekend availability.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and support the railbike team, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality service.
- Assist in hiring, scheduling, and training new railbike tour guides.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Tour Operations:
- Ensure railbike tours operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established policies.
- Conduct safety briefings and demonstrations for tour participants.
- Handle on-site customer service, addressing questions, concerns, or issues as they arise.
- Tour Guiding:
- Actively participate as a railbike tour guide, engaging with guests and sharing historical and educational information about the Nickel Plate Railroad and surrounding areas.
- Promote a fun, memorable, and safe experience for all participants.
- Safety and Maintenance:
- Conduct regular safety checks of railbike equipment and the track area.
- Report maintenance needs and assist with basic equipment troubleshooting as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols for both staff and participants.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in team leadership or supervisory roles, preferably in a customer-facing or outdoor activity setting.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work weekends and flexible hours, with shifts varying between 28–40 hours per week.
- Physically capable of performing duties such as riding railbikes, lifting equipment, and being on foot for extended periods.
- Passion for providing excellent customer experiences and promoting safety.
- Familiarity with the Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad or railbike operations is a plus.
Schedule:
This position is seasonal, beginning mid-March and concluding in October. Schedules will vary, but weekend availability is required.
