What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intervention Specialist position at NILES INTERMEDIATE?
Position: Intervention Specialist
Reports to: Building Principal and/or Special Education Supervisor
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university
- Current Education of the Handicapped, K-12, Certification or State of Ohio Intervention Specialist License valid for K-12
- Education and/or training which evidences a thorough knowledge of instruction of students, curriculum development and implementation, classroom management, parent education and involvement, teaming with other education specialist and the ability to supervise classroom assistant
- Maintain compliance following all state and federal laws of IDEA
Essential functions are listed below, however they are not limited to those listed:
- Implore proper safety procedures of all students
- Teach and evaluate the students using sound instructional practices
- Effectively manage the classroom and maintain a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Prepare clear and timely lesson plans (providing complete lesson plans for substitute) and maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required
- Attend parent/teacher conferences and communicate effectively through the use of interim reports and report cards
- Ensure students are learning all subject material by regular evaluation
- Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure for the classroom, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
- Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
- Interact in a positive and professional manner with staff, students and parents
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Attend meetings and in-services as required by negotiated agreement
- Observe the Ohio Educator Standards
- Conduct school business through proper channels
- Comply with all school and administrative policies
- Write, implement, and evaluate based on student Individual Education Plans including goals and objectives based on individual student needs
- Ensure that students are supervised in a manner appropriate for their age and disability and based on the students’ IEP requirements
- Collaborate with general education teachers to implement IEP goals in the general education classroom as appropriate
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or building Principal
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend staff meetings at the request of the supervisor
- Attend training sessions as determined by state or county policies and procedures
- Schedule parent conferences, home visits or team meetings with other school staff
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor
