Plant Engineering Manager
Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company has an opening for a Plant Engineering Manager. This role manages all the functions of our fifteen-person mill engineering department, which is a critical support function to the manufacturing process, site facility, and utilities. The department consists of project, discipline, and process control engineers.
The role is a key member of the mill leadership team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overall department performance including safety, environmental, quality, productivity, and financial performance. The position reports to the Director of Maintenance and Engineering.
Principal Job Responsibilities/Duties
This role leads the Engineering Team so that:
- Safety is designed into all projects, and all work is implemented safely.
- All projects and engineering maintenance work meets environmental objectives and requirements
- The Five-Year Capital Plan is developed and executed. This position then oversees the development of robust project proposals for senior management using appropriate FEL methods, and then drives approved projects through implementation to startup. Capital jobs can range in size from small jobs less than $200,000 up to Major Capital process modifications exceeding $20MM.
- The Major Maintenance budget (>$10,000) is planned and maintained with a five-year time horizon.
- Required State, Federal, and Company regulatory inspections of mill tanks, pressure vessels, hazardous piping, etc., are conducted on time and within all regulatory requirements.
- Mill engineering standards are incorporated into job plans. In particular, maintains meticulous documentation on mill PSM systems.
- The mill infrastructure in maintained, including surfaces, underground, and structures.
- Engineering drawings and documentation are maintained.
- The department is driven towards optimum skills mix and staffing levels.
Experience/Competencies Required
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required with at least 10 yrs. (or equivalent) of progress team leadership responsibilities.
- Prefer candidates with strong knowledge of pulp and paper process, process engineering, design engineering and project management along with supervision experience
- Experience with contractor and supplier management along with contract development and execution
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills along with a technical writing capability
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a team environment
- Must have well developed problem solving and analytical skills
- High level of initiative and motivation
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Professional Engineering licensing or the ability to get the same by comity is strongly preferred.
About Nippon Dynawave Packaging in Longview, WA:
The Longview Liquid Packaging facility produces bleached paperboard used to make cartons and cups for liquids such as milk, juice, coffee, and sake. The facility employs about 500 people and produces 260,000 metric tons of paperboard each year -- the equivalent of 6 billion liter-sized milk cartons. Weyerhaeuser launched the Longview Liquid Packaging business in 1953 and operated the facility until its acquisition by Nippon Paper Industries (NPI).
The facility began a new era under NPI ownership on September 1, 2016, operating as Nippon Dynawave Packaging.
