Summary:

The Maritime Simulator Operator/880A/88K Technical Instructor will provide support to the US Army Transportation School, Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE)

MITD-Simulator Operator/Technical Instructor Support Services.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct operations training; instructor must be knowledgeable and physically able to present instruction in accordance with the approved TRADOC POI for the following courses/subject: Instructor for Marine MOS's 88K10 - 880A1 Level Initial Military Training, Advanced Individual Training (AIT) courses, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Courses, Warrant Officer Initial Military Training, Professional Military Education Courses and Maritime Functional Courses.
  • Classes are taught in the simulators, on ship, in the classroom, and/or utilizing the various live training aids or laboratories throughout MITD that support maritime training.
  • Training on simulators is provided to all maritime personnel and supports various courses/blocks of instruction; must have the knowledge and ability to teach the course material as required and interpret the students' performance in the various tasks.
  • The simulator is in use during the work week and is scheduled for multiple courses and blocks of instruction. The operator to simulator ratio is 1:2. There are two simulators. Both simulation and technical training are on-going activities while all other courses/classes are in session.

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Instructor must be knowledgeable in Army Maritime Operations at a minimum to include: Vessel Handling and Maneuvering Characteristics; Navigation and Seamanship operations; Collision Avoidance Radar and Navigation Systems Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Reconnaissance and Surveillance (C4ISR) systems, Maritime Terminologies, Watercraft Logistics Operations.
  • Must be able to fully operate the Full Mission Bridge (FMB) Small Craft Bridge (SCB) and the Maneuver Support Vessel Light (MSV-L) simulators and conduct all 88K10-40 and 880A1/2 training sessions that the simulator provides for training.
  • -Must be able to physically conduct simulator operator/technical instructor/writer duties and in the stated subject area when required in a classroom, simulator, live training aid, and/or ship environment.
  • Standing for extended periods of time on hard decks or floors exposed to heat and cold conditions is common when conducting live training events.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situations identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions.
  • Proficiency in the following Microsoft software programs, which will be furnished as part of the workstation for performance to include software updates as provided: Word 2013; Excel 2013; PowerPoint 2013; and Outlook 2013.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant knowledge acquired through experience/training that is equivalent to education/training, USCG license, and Maritime/Cargo Handling technology degree program.
  • Maritime candidates must have ability to be vetted as meeting the qualifications as a vessel watch officer through the National Maritime Center (NMC) for acceptance as a U.S. Coast Guard approved instructor.
  • Instructor must be experienced with Army watercraft terminal operations to include, Joint Logistics Over The Shore (JLOTS) Operations, and harbor operations.
  • Must be physically able to launch and recover FRBs from a trailer, operate an FRB in calm and adverse (winds up to 20 knots, seas up to 2 feet) weather conditions, stand for periods of 3 to 4 hours continuously, and be capable to lift 50 pounds without injury.
  • Have completed the Initial Military Training (IMT) and Professional Military Education (PME) courses required for the specific MOS
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
