GENERAL SUMMARY

This position plans and implements activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth of children. This position is responsible for the care, hygiene, learning, and developmental activities, specialized programs, and redirection of children. This position communicates directly with parents as well as maintaining classroom records, cleanliness, and orderliness.


This position ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, and on occasion, later hours or weekend time may be required with project deadlines and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is essential at all times.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform.   • Works cohesively with staff to develop and deliver a quality program appropriate to the different age groups.
  • Performs all activities with children, i.e., jump, dance, walk, run, etc. for extended periods of time.
  • Shares lead responsibilities with other teachers.
  • Engages with current and prospective parents and family members and is responsive to their needs.
  • Keeps the Manager informed of any necessary information regarding the care and safety of children.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation according to center and other licensing or regulation requirements.
  • Assists and accepts responsibility in other daily center duties that might be temporary in the event other personnel are not available.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, center events, and parent/customer meetings as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent AND possess an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate or have the ability to obtain ECE Certificate within 12 months of hiring OR have an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Have all ECE certificates or equivalent qualifications approved and verified in the department's electronic workforce registry.
  • Must have professional development progress documented annually.
  • Must maintain continuing education units (CEU's) as required for the position.
  • Certified in State Training and Registry Systems (STARS) Training.
  • Attend annual blood borne pathogens training.
  • Provide/complete a negative TB test.
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting.
  • The ability to work with vulnerable populations including adults and children.
  • Must pass a State and National (FBI) criminal history background check prior to employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes.
  • Two (2) years' experience working in an Early Learning Facility or similar classroom setting.
  • Possess current CPR/First Aid certification appropriate to the ages of children in care or can obtain certifications within 6 months of hiring.
  • Possess current Food Handler's Card or can obtain within 6 months of hiring.
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider.

SUPERVISION

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the primary responsibilities of the position.

· Ability to stand up to 95% of the day.

· Must be able to assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children.

· Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor the environment and children's wellbeing.

· Must be able to excel in an ambiguous and continuously changing, competitive environment.

· Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as work hours may vary to meet the needs of the children.

· Understanding of policies and regulations regarding the care of children.

· Understands responsibilities as a mandated reporter.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle; feel; or grip objects, stretch and/or reach with hands and arms; stoop; crouch or work in cramped or awkward positions; repetitive motions. This person may regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus.
