What are the responsibilities and job description for the (Tribal Only) Elders Program Manager position at Nisqually Indian Tribe?
NATURE OF WORK: This position is responsible for managing, planning, and coordinating health, education, recreation and social programs for the Nisqually Indian Tribe's Elders programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage, plan, coordinate, and supervise the operations of the Elders Programs, staff, and volunteers.
- Advise elders of services available and work cooperatively to identify additional health, educational, recreational, cultural, and social needs and wants of program participants.
- Research, develop, and implement plans to address the specialized health related needs of elders such as housing, home health care, assisted living and rehab facilities, nutrition and specialty meal planning, and health care referrals.
- Work with local education programs to develop educational courses and provide other informational resources for program participants.
- Coordinate outreach activities to develop community interest in the Elders Program.
- Prepare calendar of events, newsletters, and other announcements, outreach, and communications.
- Assure proper cleaning, maintenance, and safety at the Elders facilities by coordinating and communicating with maintenance staff.
- Research and prepare grant applications.
- Prepare and monitor program operating budgets.
- Receive and investigate complaints and initiate actions to resolve problems.
- Prepare activity and membership reports.
- Provide advice related to Elders Program and participants to Health Director, CEO, and Elders Committee as directed.
- Lead program planning and goal setting.
- Represent the program at community meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and philosophy related to social services and health needs of aging adults
- Knowledge of intergenerational grief, historical trauma and effective culturally based healing methods.
- Knowledge of cultural based spiritual interventions and its importance to Native elders and their families.
- Knowledge of recreational, social, and instructional planning programs and administration.
- Knowledge of housing programs and services available for elders including HUD.
- Knowledge of administrative and management practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of program and contract administration.
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies that affect the elders and management of Tribal programs.
- Skill in developing public communication plans, outreach programs and campaigns, including the production of support materials.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement programs and activities.
- Ability to demonstrate cultural humility.
- Ability to be sensitive and understanding while working with diverse populations.
- Ability to motivate, coordinate and supervise staff and volunteers.
- Ability to conduct research and analysis on a variety of program issues.
- Ability to prepare accurate and concise written materials.
- Ability to create innovate programs and encourage elder involvement.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and present information to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
- Ability to maintain an effective records keeping system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS:
- Associate of Arts in counseling, nursing, mental health, social work, psychology or gerontology OR a related field OR a comparable amount of experience and/or education.
- Four years of experience working with an Elders program or another similar program with an emphasis on the
- unique healthcare and social needs of elderly adults.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Tribe's insurance policy.
- Case management experience preferred.
