Our interns step away from the regular sitting at the desk to having the opportunity at hands-on experience with several business units within NJ TRANSIT. Objective of this role :
NJ TRANSIT's Rail Operations Support Internship is an opportunity for students to bolster North America's third-busiest commuter railroad by identifying, analyzing, and
proposing solutions to a range of management challenges. In this role, the intern will field and investigate inquiries from senior Rail Operations leadership and gain firsthand
knowledge on the principles of passenger railroad management. The incumbent will also support NJ TRANSIT'S activities pertaining to the Northeast Corridor Commission, NJ TRANSIT's Rail Heritage Committee, and other special projects. This position will be housed within the Rail Inter-Carrier Agreements Department, which liaises with a portfolio of 15 railroads and transit agencies ranging from large entities like Amtrak and Norfolk Southern to smaller short-line freight carriers.
Skills and Qualifications :
Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with key principles in the fields of public policymaking, data analysis, historic preservation, and American History.
- Expertise in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Working knowledge of data science tools and processes (e.g., pivot tables, Microsoft Access and Power Bl, mainframe environments, or other technologies).
- Valid driver's license.
Work Environment :
Office, with occasional field visits.
Approximate Hours Per Week : Students can work up to 40 hours per week through the 10-week summer internship
