NMR Group is seeking candidates for an Energy Engineering Analyst I position. We’re an employee-owned consulting firm specializing in research for and evaluation of energy programs. Energy efficiency and clean energy are burgeoning fields that provide excellent career opportunities. 


Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or an engineering-related discipline. We are looking for applicants who think critically and creatively, take initiative, and are not afraid to ask questions. The successful candidate will be fluent in English and have strong written and verbal communication skills, task management abilities, and an interest in contributing to a collaborative atmosphere. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated interest in energy and climate change.


The anticipated salary for this position is from $60,000 to $69,000, depending on qualifications and experience. We also offer a strong array of benefits, including an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, health, dental, disability, 401K, T passes for those who commute to our Davis Square, Somerville, MA office via public transportation, paid parental leave, and three weeks of paid vacation in the first year of employment (up to six weeks after multiple years of employment).

We offer a flexible working arrangement. This position is expected to work part-time from home and part-time from our office in Somerville, MA. The ideal candidate will already live in the Boston area.


Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Conducting energy analyses and developing energy models
  • Performing onsite energy audits at homes and businesses
  • Writing clear and concise research summaries, memoranda, and reports 
  • Performing analyses using R, Stata, SPSS, or similar data analysis packages 
  • Designing, implementing, and analyzing surveys 
  • Conducting semi-structured interviews 


This position will require individuals to perform onsite energy audits of residential and commercial buildings, which can be physically and mentally taxing at times. These audits may require employees to travel up to 50% of the time for several consecutive months, sometimes requiring out-of-state trips. NMR will pay for training to become a certified HERS Rater. Employee and customer safety are always our top priority; employees are empowered to determine when a situation is not safe to conduct audits.


Experience and understanding of the principles and practices of program evaluation is a bonus; however, we are primarily seeking candidates with relevant skills and offer on-the-job training in evaluation and energy auditing.
