Seeking an Intermediate-level Systems Software Programmer to work within the Systems, Servers, and Security Support Unit within the Information Technology Division. This position will work closely with the unit’s lead application developer and data management professional to provide installation, support, and troubleshooting of applications, systems, databases, and servers used in the agency.
Broad areas of responsibility include supporting existing applications, upgrading / transitioning / deploying new systems, assisting with interfaces and data exchanges, querying / analyzing / presenting data, developing and automating reports, monitoring and managing SQL Server databases, producing documentation, supporting the agency’s websites and content management system (CMS), and other special projects as needed.
The role is remote eligible following a period of onsite acclimation and approval of management. Remote work will be hybrid, meaning some time may be spent on-site and some time can be worked off-site, depending on schedule and work required. Remote eligibility will in part be determined by demonstrated ability to competently perform tasks independently. This role requires an ability to analyze a number of alternative approaches to implementing software solutions, taking into consideration system interrelationships, stakeholder requirements, and the software and / or equipment configuration most appropriate for the given project. ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Provide first and second-tier technical support for applications, systems, and servers.
- Work with vendors and stakeholders on the selection, implementation, and integration of new applications and infrastructure.
- Participate in testing and user acceptance of applications and upgrades.
- Assist with software updates, upgrades, patching, license inventory, and monitoring of various applications and databases.
- Develop workflow and processes for querying, editing, reporting, and mapping of application data.
- Design and implement processes, or process improvements, to aid in development and support of applications.
- Design, develop, and implement internal data feeds, data reporting extracts, and ETL processes between disparate systems.
- Create and maintain custom views and stored procedures as needed to support automation and data integrations.
- Leverage API and author interfaces to facilitate and enhance business processes.
- Document data flows and application specifications from a database perspective.
- Configure and monitor relational databases to optimize performance and resource use, safeguard backup and recovery, and ensure health and availability.
- Design, create, and implement analytical reports and provide general support using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and PowerBI.
- Write and maintain clear and accurate technical documentation to describe procedures and processes.
- Provide training documentation and / or training as needed to transition support to areas within and beyond the IT section.
- Support activities and initiatives concerning the Sheriff’s Office Strategic goals and objectives.
- Perform other duties of similar nature and level.
