What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Development Program Coordinator position at NOAH (Neighborhood of Affordable Housing)?
NOAH, Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, is seeking a dedicated part-time coordinator for our Youth Leadership Development Program.
The role will focus on facilitating leadership development opportunity for East Boston youth as they spearhead numerous activities to address socioeconomic and environmental issues within their community. This initiative aims to provides approachable mentorship to young people, aged fourteen to eighteen, while simultaneously providing a sustainable source of employment. Year-round, NOAH employs a core group of eight to ten local, low-income, youth and expands the program and bring on additional members during the out-of-school summer months.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to, the following:
- Recruitment, training, mentorship, and supervision of the youth members of the program.
- Assist in the development of youth leadership skills, provide diligent guidance, and/or provide referrals regarding personal development issues
- Design, develop, and implement youth and community related programs.
- Conduct direct outreach to local community residents/groups, businesses, schools, places of worship, civic groups
- Research and networking to develop contacts and resources that support programs and projects.
- Facilitate Educational Workshops
- One-on-one meetings with participating youth members
- Coordinate with other non-profits and government agencies
- Produce monthly progress reports within the organization and with community members
- Participate in local/regional coalitions, as directed and community association meetings related to this work
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience supervising youth
- Fluent in both English and Spanish (the two primary languages spoken in our served communities)
- Experience with youth development and commitment to fostering youth leadership
- Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental justice
- Excellent written and verbal skills, use of MS Office Suite; desktop publishing and web skills a plus
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as a team
- Ability to handle multiple and complex projects
- Ability to work with a diverse range of people and to motivate them to become involved in community work
- Self-motivation, dependability, flexibility, creativity and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
