What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinist position at Noble Plastics?
- The Machinist communicates with the designer to determine the best way to manufacture the desired plastic part. The Machinist is also responsible for determining the set-up, adjusting and maintaining equipment, producing the parts, creating the programming instruction for the parts being manufactured and inspecting the finished products to ensure they meet all specifications.

- PERFORMANCE STANDARD
- Assist team members with problems and use various techniques to solve problems.
- Support engineering with automation.
- Share knowledge of how to get information to outside vendors, how to design parts, knowledge of machines and brain storm about issues.
- Work with automation for one off manufacturing process.
- Rebuild or remake broken parts if needed.
- Assist with designing and layout of equipment and fixtures. Design fixtures, tooling and parts to meet special engineering needs.
- Analyze designs and make recommendations to engineering for design modifications regarding construction and function of parts when requested.
- Proper set up and operation of machines to ensure safety, quality and specifications are maintained in the finished product.
- PERFORMANCE STANDARD
- Write programming instructions for parts being manufactured, configure machine tools based on detailed specification provided by engineering and design team in the Green Book.
- Machine mold parts that require high level of accuracy or secondary machine by:
- Design the process
- Design the fixturing
- Design end of arm tooling
- Provide instructions to operators once system is set up.
- Set up machines with fixtures for secondary machining.
- Design and create functional end of arm tooling and problem solve to modify parts as needed.
- Support the production process in routine or high-priority tooling repairs, using robot to remake and redesign parts of the end of arm tooling molding process.
- Solve tooling issues by identifying productivity of tooling, evaluating performance and requirements.
- Fabricate prototypes and replicate components as needed.
- Check parts to ensure conformance to tolerances and specified dimensions.
- Forward completed parts to QA, engineering or production based on the stage in the process.
- Perform maintenance on all machines in area and computer equipment including:
- Running tests
- Replacing worn or broken parts
- Keeping inventory of parts and supplies needed to operate equipment.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Documentation of process and results is compiled to ensure Noble Plastics is in compliance with specifications for each project.
- PERFORMANCE STANDARD
- Document all work completed on required production or tooling work.
- Use Inventor-HSM, IQMS and other necessary software to design, create, inspect, customize and track work completed.
- Report any discrepancies on internal documentation, such as bills of materials, work orders, work instructions, inspection plans, etc.
- Outline and document step-by-step processes followed to program equipment for specific jobs.
- Write and maintain inspection and programming logs.
- Specifications are accurately interpreted, and needs identified ensuring the most accurate quote possible.
- PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Assist with secondary machining process quote related research by:
- Determine process
- Identify what tooling needs to be purchased and charged back to customer
- Create spreadsheet with estimated tooling production times and material final costs
- Provide information to sales and leadership information needed for quoting and other decisions.

- Wear PPEs and replace PPEs as needed.

- Maintain up to date knowledge of IQMS and other software by watching videos, completing training and practical use.
- Staff abreast of company policies and procedures.
- Evaluate procedures and recommend modifications to improved efficiency with setup and production.
