Position Summary
Under the guidance and support of the Executive Director of Child Nutrition, the Director of Child Nutrition will assist in the management and oversight of the Child Nutrition department daily operations that includes, but not is limited to managing staff, budget analysis and preparation, staff trainings, policy compliance, accessing equipment needs, and managing the meals benefits application process.
\n- Assists in the management and evaluation of the Child Nutrition personnel;
- Provides recommendations regarding departmental activities and long and short term objectives;
- Assists in the preparation and analysis of budgets and directs allocation of resources for all sections of the department;
- Assesses specifications for and make recommendations for the purchase of computer equipment, large equipment and small equipment for the Child Nutrition Program according to needs and budgetary limitations;
- Develops materials for in-service training of Child Nutrition Program personnel and organizing and conducts trainings as instructed;
- Reviews monthly financial statements, and makes available as needed to the financial and budgetary process;
- Ensures and maintains cost control of individual Child Nutrition Program school cafeterias;
- Communicates with and cooperates with such outside agencies as the City-Parish Health Department, State Department of Education, and U.S. Department of Agriculture, for conformance to all applicable laws and policies;
- Assesses and evaluates the Child Nutrition Program to ensure the needs of the students are being met;
- Assists in the oversight of the instruction of individuals and groups in the principles of nutrition in the selection of foods;
- Interprets school Child Nutrition Program objectives to principals, teachers, students, parents, the media and the public;
- Oversees the Administration of the USDA food distribution program for the parish public school system and for some state and independent schools;
- Oversees the Meal Benefits Application process;
- Performs other duties as required.
- Ability to plan, organize, assign, direct and inspect the work of subordinates, to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions, to speak before various groups and organizations;
- Working abilities to use email, internet, and Microsoft word and excel programs;
- Ability to master CNP computer software programs;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Must be able to communicate successfully with the public;
- Must be able to accurately compile data, analyze and summarize information and provide reports to the immediate supervisor and or superintendent;
- Must have the ability to work under the pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and the ability to deal with other employees in such a way as to maintain their goodwill;
- Must be able to respond appropriately to supervision and accept recommendations;
- Must demonstrate sensitivity/understanding in interpersonal relations with persons of diverse cultures/backgrounds;
- Must possess sufficient interpersonal skills to function compatibly with others.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Institution Management or other health related fields from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
- 7 years of experience in food service required.
- Hold a state school lunch supervisor’s certificate strongly preferred.
Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
