JOB SUMMARY: The lwesteleq Miytel will work in conjunction with the Education Department in developing and implementing appropriate learning plans for students and families of the Nooksack Indian Tribe. This person will work with the Tribal Liaison and represent the Nooksack Tribe within the school system and advocating on behalf of our students and families and under the direct supervision and leadership of the Teen Enrichment and Prevention Program Manager .
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide tutorial support face-to-face, virtually or through distance learning to individuals or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve occupational skills, or prepare for academic or occupational tests.
- Assist lwesteleq to teach students study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies.
- Assist lwesteleq with students' progress throughout tutoring sessions.
- Collaborate along with the Tribal Liaison and students, families, teachers, school administrators, or counselors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress.
- Assist the lwestaleq develop teaching or training materials, such as handouts, study materials, or quizzes.
- Assist staff Identify, develop, or implement intervention strategies, tutoring plans, IF NEEDED assist LEAs with IEPs or 504 Plans
- Be actively involved in meetings
- Assist staff prepare lesson plans or learning modules for tutoring sessions according to students' needs and goals.
- Assist with all educational and youth programs and events depending on the situation (face to face-remotely virtually)
- Maintains confidentiality at all times - ensuring a Release of Information is in place
- Integrate culture and self-identity activities into learning with meaning in alignment with common core standards
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May have to walk/drive between office locations under a variety of conditions. Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip from assigned work areas.

- Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, School systems, student account records and know how to access and retrieve information from the internet.
- Must be able to explain complicated information in lay person terms.
- Ability to handle highly confidential information.
- Ability to interact in a positive demeanor and apply excellent listening skills with all students, clients, and community members.
- Comfortable in a constantly changing environment, flexible and adaptable. Excellent organizational skills.
