The Category Manager (CM) will have extensive data insight knowledge and lead the Category Management function and drive individual stories, trends, insights, and synchronize data harmonization stories to support established distribution in Natural retail, FDM retail, Pet Retail, and e-tail. The candidate will have cross collaboration across the organization and have experience to work independently to find the category information, and support Category Captain roles at individual accounts along with a desire to be a trusted member in a growth environment.The Category Manager will provide the development of actionable category insights business and provide recommendations to turn insights into action.
The successful candidate will possess the leadership and communication skills necessary to work in intense collaboration with cross functional teams to develop and execute plans to achieve revenue and syndicated consumption goals. You will work in strong collaboration with Sales Leadership, Directors, Account Managers, Shopper Marketing, and Brand Team to deliver on corporate objectives. This position ensures the accuracy of product data, pricing, and discount set-up within portals and internal systems and works with Sales and Broker teams to ensure the smooth execution of promotional programs. The position also assists with managing contractor onboarding, documentation, new account set-up, external product data portals and distributing promotional and branding materials to teams.

- Have extensive data insight knowledge in CPG when utilizing data sources of IRI, Nielsen, SPINs, Stackline 84.51, as well as other sources.
- Build a strong partnership with the company's sales Managers and Directors by developing and implementing analytics and insights for retailers
- Establish clear Category Management strategies for the company and retailers based on
- Industry Trends & Consumer Insights by leveraging various data sources to construct dynamic presentations to communicate strategies and achieve objectives
- Serve as an expert in translating internal knowledge into action to identify opportunities for retailers & e-tailers
- Collaborate with the account teams and cross functional teams to develop solutions to business issues
- Influence the customer by identifying opportunities and providing potential solutions that align with retailer and company objectives
- Unlock white space opportunities and test recommendations, while identifying growth opportunities with industry leading tools
- Have a strong intuition to anticipate opportunities and can elevate analysis beyond data
- Integrate multiple sources of insight to define where to play and how to win over the short and long term
- Develop plans for execution and engagement with appropriate customer contact points, timing, & content based on industry research
- Leverage insights to create actionable selling stories and category strategy
- Leverage creative thought processes to tackle category issues and opportunities
- Assist with any research, and lead projects, to deliver category solutions benefitting both the customer and the company
- Develop category reviews, line reviews, promotion analysis, new item trackers, etc
- Leverage data tools to provide reporting and insights which will further develop company and retailer objectives
- Develop analysis and insights that will help with business issues including: item defense, new item sell in, category reviews, new item tracking, consumer behavior, etc
- Establish and deliver best-in-class merchandising recommendations
- Prepare and present strategic insights to support selling initiatives and secure alignment of strategic and tactical plans at multiple levels of the organization.
- Manage new item and annual review presentation development, identify opportunities to improve performance, gain acceptance and increase revenue.
- Work closely with the sales and shopper team to determine analysis of sales trends, competitors, buying habits, and planograms of products to promote sales opportunities.
- Recommends promotional solutions, researching competitors and working closely with retailers, brokers and sales/shopper teams to develop effective programs and pricing.
- Align planning process to meet retail planning needs with an eye towards critical milestones -line reviews, top to top meetings, etc.
- Be the subject matter expert and provide category perspective to Sales teams to enable broader understanding of decisions and recommendations and market dynamics.
- Establish an understanding of competitive activity and track performance and anticipate responses
- Plan and implement long-term development strategies for product categories.
- Prepare retail projections for new items and expanding portfolios.
- Assortment recommendations, sku rankings and planogram development for retailer decks.
- Prepare post promotion analysis and recommendations for improvement.
- Conducting competitive and category reviews.
- Deep dives as needed into segments, trends and/or competitors.
- Maintain a high level of analytical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and projects at once while meeting deadlines.
- Pricing analysis to help determine timing/% increase and if a price increase was truly warranted
- Recommendation/analysis for the innovation team with regard to trending categories/product/QTY ideas for new/existing items
- Providing pricing modules for new innovation based on what is/is not working within the industry.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Competency Statements
- CPG Category Management experience is required.
- FDM, Club & Natural experience is required.
- International, specifically Canadian experience is preferred
- Proven ability to translate data into selling stories for internal and external audiences.
- Experience defending data and finding deep data insights to the benefit of a retailer
- Ability to manage projects, develop timelines, articulate critical paths and deliver outcomes on time.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrated customer-centric mindset.

Computer Skills:
Must be proficient with MS Office and have advanced Excel skills. Intermediate level or higher, Business Writing

BA/BS in Business, Communications or related field or 4 years experience in related field or equivalent

Pay, Benefits & Perks:
The estimated annual pay for this role is $92,000 to $120,000. This pay is an estimate and the exact compensation may vary depending on an applicant's location, skills, prior experience, professional qualifications, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation may also include incentive compensation (i.e. bonus or commission) if applicable.
