Job Summary:
The YMCA Sports Director is responsible for organization, delivery, and quality of Norfolk Family YMCA program(s) to the membership and community. Work independently and under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college/university in related field.
- 2-3 years of youth experience required.
- Qualified candidate must demonstrate a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff development, planning and innovation, budget development and management of fiscal control systems, financial development, strategic planning and community development.
- Individual must have proven ability to align and inspire people to set and reach goals and implement innovative processes and successful programs.
Essential Functions:
- Promotes and incorporates the Norfolk Family YMCA four core values and character development model in all program activities.
- Assists in recruiting, training, and developing part-time program staff and volunteers.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information; organizes and schedules program registrations; compiles program statistics.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Works directly with all operations of concessions.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Coordinates use of Norfolk Family YMCA facilities for program activities and events.
- Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with the Association and Norfolk Family YMCA strategic plans.
- Assists in Norfolk Family YMCA fundraising activities, special events and other youth programs as needed and available.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Assists with Program Committee meetings.
- Secures and schedules courts and facilities.
- Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings.
- Organizes and conducts coaches training and meetings.
- Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations.
- Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules.
- Trains and schedules sports officials.
- Develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines, and handbooks.
- Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices.
- Monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment.
- Organizes and conducts sports clinics. Oversee sports leagues, volunteers, referees, and coaches.
- Ability to be flexible to work early mornings, evenings, weekends & holidays.
