Instrumental Music Teacher
JOB TITLE : INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC INSTRUCTOR
REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelors Degree with an emphasis in Music
- Valid Nebraska Certificate with an endorsement in Instrumental Music
- Successful teaching and / or practice teaching experience
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate
REPORTS TO : Building Administrator
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM : Building Administrator
JOB GOAL : To organize and conduct a learning program which will enable students to master appropriate levels of subject matter, skills and appreciation of music. The instructor shall be a positive role model and assist the student in his / her development in the production of desirable social, mental and emotional responses.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Nine month year or as established by the Board of Education
EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of administrative guidelines
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Reports to work as scheduled on a punctual and reliable basisPlans instructional objectives and activities consistent with music curriculum guidelinesDirects and supervises small and large group activitiesSupervises student behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and well-being of students and staffSelects materials suitable for designated learning objectivesShows concern for all students, not just those displaying musical talent and abilitiesKeeps accurate attendance and progress recordsUtilizes a variety of analytical and evaluative techniques in auditioning and placement of studentsCommunicates positive support of the students in their musical developmentRelates with staff, parents, and community stakeholders through positive professional cooperationSupervises and provides individual or small group lessons as neededArranges transportation of performance groups to various locationsMaintains and replaces uniforms and other related items.Plans, organizes, rehearses and conducts in-school and out-of-school performances of small and large groupsConducts practice for Marching Band at least two weeks prior to the beginning of each school year.Compiles a list of actual activities performed during the extended contract period and submit it to the Senior High Principal.Conduct instructional sessions for Senior High Band and Jazz Band.Assist with instructional sessions for Junior High Band.Exhibits a positive and friendly demeanor with studentsOCCASIONAL :
Collects fees from students as needed in accordance with district guidelinesOrganizes and implements a yearly operating budget in line with the district goals and building budget parametersPrepares and submits budget documents for groups, travel, equipment and suppliesEnsures proper training on audiovisual equipment as neededDemonstrates responsibility for (and maintains proper care of) equipment, facilities, and student performance areasSuggests recommendations for the continuing review and development of curriculumInforms students of upcoming honor bands, all state band, etc.Assists students with audition preparation for honor band, etc.Actively participates in scheduled staff meetings and serves on educational committeesAssumes responsibility for periodic conferences with parentsRemains current with professional training and shows evidence of regular professional growthRecognizes the extra curriculum program as integral to the educational development of the studentPerforms extra duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by the appropriate administratorOTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Strong auditory acuity for music direction, auditioning, etc.Ability to lead and supervise large and small groupsMusical performance talentSkills in oral and written communication, organization, human relations, assessment and evaluationAbility to deal with stressAvailability for extra duty hoursPrimary Location : Norfolk Senior High
