The Department of Physics at Norfolk State University (NSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Quantum Science, specifically in the area of superconducting electronics. The physics department offers a BS in physics, an MS in Materials Science, and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. We are seeking faculty with expertise that aligns with the exploration of novel quantum materials and device and who can contribute to the development of a quantum science graduate program. The appointment is expected to begin August 2025, the position remains open until filled.
Role Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, developing a program of research in superconducting electronics and contributing to the growth of the department in the area of quantum science. The candidate will also become a participant in the NSF funded Center for Research and Education in Quantum-leap Science and Technology (CREQS) located in the McDemmond Center for Applied Research at NSU. Candidates will have access to on-campus facilities and equipment such as a Class 100/1000 cleanroom, micro-nanoscale direct laser write lithographic systems, and a Quantum Design 14T, 50mK PPMS.
Qualifications
- PhD degree in Physics or closely related field
- A record of publication and experience in superconducting electronics and fabrication of quantum devices
- Candidates should show an interest and ability to communicate and mentor a diverse student-body of undergraduate and graduate students
