The Clinical Dietitian-PRN conducts initial and ongoing nutrition assessments for patients, providing tailored education to both patients and staff. This role requires a Registered Dietitian credential and knowledge in various subspecialties including diabetes, cardiology, and oncology. Responsibilities also include maintaining licensure and continuing education while ensuring safe and effective care practices.

Key Responsibilities:
Nutrition Assessment and Education
The Clinical Dietitian-PRN will conduct initial and ongoing nutrition assessments for patients, taking into account their medical history, lifestyle, and nutritional needs. They will provide personalized education to patients and staff on healthy eating habits, meal planning, and managing chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
Licensure and Continuing Education
The Clinical Dietitian-PRN must be registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and obtain an Oklahoma State Dietitian license within the first 6 months of employment. They are required to complete approximately 15 hours of continuing education credits per calendar year to stay current with new findings and research in the field.
Experience and Skills
Prior clinical experience in an acute care facility is preferred, but not required. The Clinical Dietitian-PRN must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. They must also be able to use decision-making skills to prioritize patient care and identify potential safety risks.
Qualifications:
Education:
A bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field from an accredited institution is required. The program must be approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, leading to registration as a Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RD/RDN). Basic knowledge of subspecialty areas, including nutrition support, diabetes, cardiology, renal, and oncology, is also required.
Experience:
Six months of clinical experience in an acute care facility is preferred, but not required. Prior experience working with patients with chronic conditions is also desirable.
Licensure/Certification:
Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and an Oklahoma State Dietitian license must be achieved within the first 6 months of employment. A food handler's permit from the Cleveland County Health department must also be obtained before hire. Completion of general and patient care orientation is required prior to providing patient care.
