What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at Normandin Middle School?
Job Goal:
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for day to day management of the classroom and provision of instruction, including development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, assessment, and curriculum design. The teacher is also responsible for the supervision of classroom staff and ongoing parent contact.
Performance and Responsibilities:
1. Design and carryout developmentally appropriate motivating curriculum/programming as warranted by IEP goals/MA curriculum framework
2. Guide classroom staff in implementing goals of children
3. Provide direct individual and/or group instruction
4 Provide trans-disciplinary programming through consultation with professional and therapeutic staff
5. Conduct thorough educational evaluations necessary for quarterly progress reports, annual assessment and re-evaluations
6. When scheduled, prepare MCAS alternate assessment on students assigned
7. Implement social skills training program
8. Utilize various techniques to provide sensory diets for students
9. Initiate and support the use of assistive technology to provide access
10. Daily maintenance of supplies, equipment, and departmental space
11. Organize daily schedule to meet caseload requirements and uses indirect time appropriately
12. Consult with staff in other discipline areas to improve programming
13. Facilitate ongoing parent contact and encourage family involvement
14. Develop appropriate individual IEP consistent with training in a timely way
