POSITION: Discipleship Director - (Full Time/Exempt)
REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor
MINISTRY: Adult Spiritual Formation
OVERVIEW: Noroton Presbyterian Church (NPC) is a body of believers welcoming all to worship Jesus Christ,
grow in faith through study of the Word, serve in the surrounding communities and throughout the world, and
care for our neighbors as ourselves. Our Adult Spiritual Formation Ministry mission is to help people grow in
their Christian discipleship by developing spiritual practices. To this end, the Discipleship Director is responsible
for developing, coordinating and leading the discipleship initiatives at NPC and engaging in activities that help
our church family grow deeper and more meaningful relationships with Christ, with each other, and with our
community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. In partnership with the Adult Spiritual Formation team and Session, develop short and long-term
discipleship goals, including funding and spending plans, that align with NPC’s mission and vision.
2. Develop a clear and effective strategy to help individuals easily and efficiently take the next step in
relationship with God and find a home in our church community. Steps include but are not limited to
attending Small Groups, New Members class, retreats and other available spiritual formation
opportunities. Helping people move from visiting to belonging through connection and opportunities to
build meaningful relationships.
3. Provide oversight and coordination of Adult Sunday School, New Members classes, Bible Study, Small
Groups and Leader training, into a cohesive discipleship track.
4. Develop and lead our Small Groups ministry and a process for adults to connect with one another, grow
spiritually and build a strong community in Christ transitioning NPC from a church with small groups to a
church of small groups.
5. Work with the existing Small Groups team in providing leadership, training, and coaching for groups and
facilitators.
6. Continually recruit, train, and empower Small Group leaders and equip them to disciple others.
7. Evaluate and recommend curriculum, training resources, and support in all areas of spiritual formation.
8. Project a positive Christian image to the congregation and beyond.
9. Attend NPC staff meetings, Ministry team meetings, Session meetings, when required, and other relevant
meetings and training sessions as needed.
10. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A maturing disciple of Jesus Christ.
2. Education: B.A. or the equivalent.
3. Experience with and a passion for discipleship and small group ministry.
4. Strong leadership, relational and organizational skills and exceptional communication skills (verbal and
written).
5. Willing to work outside of regular business hours when required to attend church events and meetings.
6. Possess the ability to handle stress, work independently and as a team member, and deal with people in a
professional manner consistent with the NPC staff covenant.
7. Computer skills in a PC or Mac environment utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel,
PowerPoint).
