Job Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the security of Park District property and safety of all park users. This position is a part-time II, non-exempt position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Checks that pass-holders passes are valid before entering open play activities or enforces a daily fee.
- Supervises open gym play to ensure safety and fair play.
- Assures that patrons are provided with excellent customer service.
- Inspects grounds, facilities, and equipment on a daily basis by using Park District standards and procedures.
- Makes sure park grounds and property are clean before, during and at the end of shifts.
- Informs public of park rules and procedures for greater safety and enjoyment of the park facilities and programs.
- Completes a detailed daily Park Supervisor checklist at the end of each shift to be turned into the Recreation Supervisor, Safety Coordinator, Superintendent of Parks, and Executive Director.
- Keeps an accurate and detailed record of all accidents and vandalism occurring in and to park property by completing the proper paperwork; Reports it to the Recreation Supervisor, and Safety Coordinator.
- Responds to emergencies in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Prepares paperwork and materials for evening athletic events.
- Replenishes copies of administrative paperwork when needed and keeps them organized in the front desk files.
- Responsible for room setup and take down as required as well as garbage removal.
- Completes Blue Room checklist at the end of room rentals and turns into Administrative Services Manager.
- Replenishes Park District supplies and toiletries, spot checks public restrooms to make sure they are clean.
- Checks and ensures that all buildings are properly locked and secure.
- Responsible for the usage and handling of radios to maintain communication with Park District staff and local police.
- Promotes a positive attitude among staff members and patrons.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR, first aid and AED certifications.
- Participates in “community activities and special events”, must be available to work during the Island in the City Festival
- Promotes and performs all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District’s safety program.
- Must work with the general public in a friendly and professional manner.
- Must work under the direction of supervisors.
- May have to work under stressful and/or emergency situations.
- Must enforce Park District policies and rules.
PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
May spend portions of their shift standing and walking.
Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Must be able to ride a bicycle.
Must be able to work quickly and efficiently.
Must be able to hear conversational voice with or without a hearing aid.
Must be able to speak and be understood under normal circumstances.
Must be able to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses.
Must take precautionary measures to protect against weather.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Will be exposed to weather conditions which can include cold, rain, sun and extreme heat.
Will be exposed to cleaning supplies.
Must possess good safety awareness and judgment.
Must possess problem solving skills.
Must be able to follow directions from supervisors.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Must posses a high school degree or equivalent and must have some skill in handling cash, dealing effectively with the public.
