Each a non-profit, community-based organization, Regional Centers were established in 1965 under legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Frank Lanterman. The Lanterman Act became effective in 1969 and later expanded the populations served to include persons with intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, and other disabling conditions requiring services similar to individuals diagnosed with intellectual disabilities. Guided by our NBRC Mission and Values to assist people with developmental disabilities to obtain the services and supports needed to live as others do in the community, NBRC has established Strategic Goals to guide our efforts in focused areas : employment, independence, community access and family supports.Position Description : The Specialized Service Coordinator is responsible for using person-centered planning to address the complex needs of those individuals and families who speak another language and / or are from communities of color. The Specialized Service Coordinator will demonstrate culturally competent skills including valuing diversity, cultural self-awareness and knowledge of other cultures. The Specialized Service Coordinator will assess cultural and linguistic barriers and identify the unmet needs of the individual and family. Upon that determination, the service coordinator will empower individuals to partner with Regional Center and other community agencies and assist in identification of new resources that are culturally relevant to our community. This position will also be responsible for tracking and monitoring trends which may include creating reports and calculating data that will be submitted to the NBRC Executive Team and the Department of Developmental Services.RequirementsMinimum Education and Experience Requirements : To qualify for the Specialized Service Coordinator role, the individual must enjoy working with and assisting individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities.A Master's degree in a field related to developmental disabilities.ORBachelor's degree in a field which offers content related to developmental disabilities, such as social work, psychology, counseling, or special education and three years' employment in a field related to developmental disabilities. Experience working in a California Regional Center is highly desirable.Minimum qualifications may be waived depending on the agency's need for specialized skills (such as language abilities).SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Bilingual language skills (English / Spanish) is required.Ability to provide transportation during working hours and after-hours emergencies or access to another form of reliable transportation which meets these minimum requirements.Specific experience and / or education in one or more of the following areas may be required : Cultural CompetenceSocial WorkRehabilitationSpecial EducationChild DevelopmentClinical CounselingSociologySocial JusticeDevelopmental PsychologyA note regarding NBRC's expectations regarding remote, hybrid, and home-based work...All employment at NBRC requires face-to-face, in-person interactions with NBRC clients, family members, community, and co-workers. Candidates for employment must live within commute distance to their preferred NBRC office, as well as the geographical location of their assigned clients.
