Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Research Communications develops and implements a comprehensive marketing, communication and public relations program for the Division of Research (DOR), in compliance with the university’s marketing and branding strategies as established by Public Relations.
The Director is responsible for publications which directly deliver scholarship and research information to public audiences and clients. These publications are the primary education and technical resources for business, industry, manufacturing, and community constituencies.
The position is also responsible for marketing North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) research capabilities to this broader public and corporate audience.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Research (DOR) manages NC A&T’s research enterprise and is headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development. DORED provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. NC A&T’s land-grant heritage ideally positions the university for today’s great research challenges – nanotechnology and biotechnology ; energy and the environment; and more. NC A&T research extends beyond the traditional disciplines of engineering and agriculture, into areas including biomedical research, leadership development, and the social and behavioral sciences. In emerging and converging disciplines all across the spectrum of science and engineering , including health disparities, evolutionary biology, and computational science, Aggie researchers are creating new knowledge, spurring economic activity, and improving the quality of life for our community and the world.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, mass communications, journalism or a related field from an accredited college or university and three years of applicable experience. Must have a strong computer background, excellent writing skills, and strong skills in scientific and technical writing and editing, content integration, web design, the use of leading-edge technologies, product management, community engagement and coordination.

Has writing/editing skills and knowledge of the basic principles and specialized vocabulary of appropriate fields to the accurate communication of scientific and technological information to decision makers and the general public.

Ability to translate complex scientific information into clear and interesting narratives for an intended audience.
Ability to coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful execution of deliverables.

Additional preferred qualifications include the ability to conceptually organize and analyze scientific data, interpret such data, and integrate complex data and reports to derive key outcomes and messages; ability to translate complex scientific information into clear and interesting narratives for an intended audience; and ability to coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful execution of deliverables.
