Description of Work

Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager III, this position provides supervision for subordinate officers regarding their assigned tasks with male offenders in a Minimum/Medium/Close custody state correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
  • Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post. Employee is responsible for subordinate officers' activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The selected candidate may be scheduled to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staffing coverage.

Scotland Correctional Institution is located in Laurinburg, North Carolina and houses up to 1,800 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer
Or
Two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications:
MUST be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

Department of Adult Correction

  • Per NC General Statute 143B-972.1 (Download PDF reader), applicants hired into a position certified as a criminal justice officer or justice officer are required to electronically submit fingerprints to the NC State Bureau of Investigation for a state and national criminal history record check and enrollment in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification System: Criminal Justice Record of Arrest and Prosecution Background Service (“RAP Back”). This is in addition to submitting fingerprints during the application process.
  • If you were ever charged with a criminal offense at some point in your life, you will be required to provide certified and true copies of warrant(s) and judgment(s) for each offense (other than a minor traffic violation) as a condition of employment, even if documentation and charges have previously been reported to this agency.
