*Salary Grade: NC11* **Salary Range $42,464 - $74,313**
This is advanced level technical engineering work supporting engineers. Positions in this classification perform technical duties supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction, materials testing, design, surveys, and/or program/regulatory compliance. Work functions may include: inspection for compliance and/or code; collection and analysis of field data; testing of materials; review, modification and/or design of plans; analysis of engineering related data, products, and/or functions. Work may include functioning in a full supervisory role for direct reports including performing/supervising several administrative functions or supervision of a separate function of considerable complexity.
Some positions may serve as survey crew leader, independently direct activities of other survey crew members in collecting field data on complex surveys.
Working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories used in the construction of roads with limited supervision. Thorough understanding of the Departments Standards and Specifications related to road and structure construction.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
- Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
- Experience with mathematical functions including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
Additional Expectations:
Ability to document findings and to take corrective actions. Ability to clearly and concisely convey information orally or in writing to individuals and/or groups. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others. Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation; establish positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors. Apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
Employee may be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, and climbing on the substructure and superstructure of bridges. Must be able to work and carry equipment on steep and rough terrain. Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. Safely work high above ground, safely operate a motor vehicle, be proficient in record keeping, and engineering testing equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
