NC- HCAP Program Assistant
The NC Health Careers Access Program at UNC Chapel Hill envisions a society with equitable access to culturally competent health care across all demographics irrespective of geographic location (urban or rural) or socioeconomic status. Our mission is to increase the number of disadvantaged students matriculating into the health professions. The Program Assistant will have direct contact with high school and undergraduate students by providing program coordination and support for the Science Enrichment Preparation (S.E.P.) Program and the Student Leadership and Research Program ( SLARP ).
S.E.P. is an eight-week summer residential program for undergraduate pre-medical and pre-dental students. The program includes academic enrichment, clinical shadowing, test prep, etc. The Program Assistant will provide support with the planning and implementation for S.E.P.
In addition to supporting efforts with the S.E.P. Program, the selected candidate will serve as the lead planner for the Student Leadership and Research Program ( SLARP ). SLARP is a collaboration between UNC and the NC School of Science and Mathematics ( NCSSM ). The selected candidate will work closely with the CHEOP Co-Director to plan and implement the SLARP Program. SLARP is a health professions exposure program for high school students enrolled at the NCSSM .
Finally, the selected candidate will serve as the lead planner for Health Careers Day On The Hill. Another exposure program for high school students that takes place in the Fall 2025 semester.
Project Uplift and Uplift PLUS Program Assistants
Project Uplift (PU) is a summer college-access program for rising high school seniors. Participants have an opportunity to experience campus life and learn about the college admissions process.
Uplift PLUS (UP) is an intensive two-week residential summer academic enrichment and college readiness program for Project Uplift participants. Participants engage in college application prep, leadership development, and experiential learning opportunities.
The Project Uplift and Uplift PLUS Program Assistants will support programmatic coordination and implementation efforts across both programs.

Minimum Experience/Education
- Minimum: College degree
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience or aptitude for event planning and coordination
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office Suite)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends (within 40 hrs/week)
- Experience working with high school or undergraduate students
- Familiarity with college access programs
- Experience with residential programs (relevant for some roles)
- Familiarity with UNC Chapel Hill environment
- Experience with data collection
