What are the responsibilities and job description for the NDFU Seasonal Summer Camp Head Cook - LOCATED IN JAMESTOWN ND position at North Dakota Farmers Union?
Purpose of the Role: This position is responsible for the on-site camp facility food preparation. Also responsible for maintaining a clean, attractive and safe environment for all users of Farmers Union Camp.
Must be able to maintain food inventories and required record keeping. North Dakota Farmers Union requires the
Head Cook to maintain acceptable levels of neatness and cleanliness of self and kitchen environment. This position
will be a good ambassador for the Farmers Union Educational program at all times.
Supervision: The Head Cook will be under indirect supervision of the Education Director.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain a sanitary and safe environment for food handling, serving, and storing
• Prepare appropriate food quantities as directed by Head Cook
• Occasionally prepare meals for special dietary needs and food allergies
• Minimize waste on food, supplies and equipment
• Assist kitchen crews; including campers with cleanup
• Identify health, fire and safety hazards; inform Head Cook and act on hazards immediately
• Keep all equipment clean and in good working condition, properly stored and used only for the intended purposes
• Maintain the kitchen area by keeping all surfaces (walls, counters, equipment and floors) sanitized and free of
clutter
• Practice energy conservation for the camp kitchen
• Establish good relations with all youth members, staff and vendors associated with camp and promote the youth
program whenever appropriate
• Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of data and information
• Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Possess effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to follow orders effectively in a timely manner
• Work with all skill types and levels of personnel and members
Educational Requirements:
• The Head Cook shall have a high school diploma or equivalent
• The Head Cook is required to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
• The Head Cook must have a safe food handlers certificate from ServSafe (can obtain after hired)
• The Head Cook must maintain a valid U.S. driver license
• The Head Cook must successfully complete Department of Health certification
• Participation in staff training is required and compensated
Working Conditions:
