The Opportunity
The ND Long Term Care Association (NDLTCA) is looking for a Vice President of Government Affairs with strong marketing and communications skills to join our advocacy team in Bismarck, ND. This role offers an excellent salary and benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement benefits, and annual/sick leave.
The primary purpose of this role is to represent NDLTCA’s interests at the local, state, and federal levels by influencing public policy decisions, building relationships with policymakers, and advocating for legislative priorities that support our members and the seniors they serve. Additionally, this role will develop and implement marketing and communication strategies to effectively promote NDLTCA’s mission and engage stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advocacy: Develop and implement strategies to influence legislative and regulatory outcomes that align with the association's goals. Monitor legislative activities and attend hearings, meetings, and sessions as necessary.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with legislators, government officials, and other stakeholders. Represent NDLTCA in meetings with policymakers and coalition partners.
- Communication: Communicate NDLTCA’s positions on various issues to members, policymakers, and the public. Prepare testimony, position papers, press releases, and other materials to support lobbying efforts.
- Marketing: Develop and execute marketing campaigns to raise awareness of NDLTCA’s mission, initiatives, and events. Utilize digital and traditional media platforms to reach target audiences.
- Content Creation: Create and manage content for NDLTCA’s website, social media, newsletters, and other communication channels. Ensure that all messaging is consistent with the association’s brand and objectives.
- Reporting: Track and report on legislative developments. Prepare and file necessary reports, including lobbying disclosures and campaign finance reports.
- Member Engagement: Engage with NDLTCA members to understand their needs and concerns. Organize member calls and meetings during legislative sessions to keep them informed and involved.
- Political Action Committee (PAC): Assist with the management of NDLTCA’s PAC, including planning and executing fundraising events, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned by the President.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- A minimum of five years of experience in government relations, public policy, or a related field.
- Experience in marketing, public relations, or communications.
- In-depth knowledge of the legislative process and regulatory environment at the state and federal levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex policy issues clearly and persuasively.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and familiarity with legislative tracking tools and digital marketing platforms.
- A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

NDLTCA is a professional and advocacy organization representing assisted living, basic care, and nursing facilities in North Dakota. We are an affiliate of the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living, representing not-for-profit and proprietary facilities in our state. Member facilities care for nearly 14,000 frail elderly and disabled individuals annually.
In addition, our Association represents approximately 14,000 dedicated professionals that care for our state’s seniors in their respective facilities 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
