NDDOT Hiring Salary:
Transportation Engineer III: $7,243 / month
Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month
Transportation Engineer I: $5,403 / month
Salary is dependent on experience. Applicants who anticipate receiving their degree by April/May of 2025 are eligible to apply; full-time start date no later than June 16, 2025 and willing to work part time until graduation.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with in-person work duties, meetings, and travel days for site visits.
Summary of Work
Join our team as a Transportation Engineer specializing in Bridge Management Systems (BMS) to help manage and maintain North Dakota’s critical bridge assets. In this role, you will utilize BMS software to assess bridge conditions, prioritize maintenance and rehabilitation needs, and plan future projects that align with state and federal goals. Collaborating with engineers, inspectors, and stakeholders, you will contribute to innovative solutions that enhance the safety, efficiency, and longevity of the state’s transportation infrastructure
Primary Duties Include:
Bridge Asset Management System
Update and manage the bridge inventory using AASHTOWare Bridge Management (BrM) software.
Update bridge deterioration models, network polices, and decision matrices to accurately predict bridge performance and support asset management strategies.
Perform cost-benefit and life-cycle cost analyses to prioritize bridge improvements.
Generate reports, charts, and maps using GIS and other software to visualize planned projects and performance measures to support decision making.
Load Rating Analysis
Use AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) software to calculate the safe load-carrying capacity of state-owned structures.
Analyze overload permit requests to ensure safety and compliance with state and federal requirements
Bridge Scoping Program
Participate in site visits to assess current bridge conditions, develop detailed scoping reports and planning-level cost estimates for proposed projects
National Bridge Inspection Program
Assign new bridge identification numbers and manage new bridge project data to maintain an accurate inventory.
Ensure proper documentation is received and filed.
Assist with annual submittal, quarterly reporting, and data validation for the National Bridge Inspection Program.
Collaborate with FHWA and other Divisions by responding to requests for information and providing insight.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction, or construction management, and
Four years of professional-level engineering work experience, and
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to visit bridges to scope projects.
Transportation Engineer II:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction, or construction management, and
Two years of professional-level engineering work experience, and
Must have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within six months of employment.
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to visit bridges to scope projects.
Transportation Engineer I:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction, or construction management (must be met by June 15, 2025), and
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to visit bridges to scope projects.
