What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney I position at North Dakota State Tax Commissioner?
Summary of Work
This position provides legal representation, litigation services, and advice to the North Dakota State Tax Commissioner, Tax Department Staff, and the State Board of Equalization. Duties include:
- Interpreting and applying State and Federal tax laws, administrative rules and case law;
- Advising Tax Department staff on state tax law;
- Representing the State in tax controversies involving individuals, and local, national, and international businesses;
- Litigating cases at all judicial levels including administrative, district court, bankruptcy court, and appeals to the North Dakota Supreme Court;
- Drafting policies, procedures, and guidelines;
- Drafting legislation;
- Attending and testifying at legislative hearings;
- Occasional travel to attend trainings, conferences, and to participate at MultiState Tax Commission meetings;
- Attending State Board of Equalization meetings; and
- Responding to Open Records requests.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires current licensure as an attorney in the State of North Dakota, or eligibility for such licensure within the next fourteen months.
