Perform duties associated with clerical and administrative support for the Communications Call Center, a 24 / 7 center, which is responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls related to the overall campus operations. Serve as the primary contact for the University Police and Safety for Administration, students, staff / faculty and the general public. Serve as the campus switchboard operator. Monitor numerous alarm, security and maintenance systems.
Being a telecommunications operator can be a very rewarding and fulfilling profession. It requires a variety of knowledge, skills, and abilities, both physical and mental. A dispatcher must be able to make decisions and act on them with limited time and information in situations where there is an element of danger. He or she must be able to deal with people in a variety of emotional or mental states, while remaining calm and professional.
Responsibilities :
- Receive incoming non-emergency police line and after-hours safety office calls.
- Monitors police and safety alarms including the university E911, Code Blue telephones and SOS / Emergency alarms, and provides the appropriate dispatch and / or notifications in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the timely response, coordination and dispatching for 911 calls for NDSU’s areas of responsibility in coordination with the Red River Regional Dispatch Center and local and regional emergency services.
- With the appropriate authorization, transmit emergency mass notification messages and / or timely warnings via the Campus Emergency Notification Systems (CENS).
- Responsible for monitoring 24 / 7 safety and security surveillance equipment and providing timely notification and / or dispatch as necessary.
- Operates teletype system to run records checks and maintains teletype log for law enforcement operations
- Operate a multi-line digital switchboard, transfers calls and / or informs callers of appropriate telephone numbers in a timely and courteous manner.
- Receives and records equipment and systems trouble calls and notifies and / or dispatches appropriate personnel.
- response personnel and any follow-up notifications for other personnel in accordance with operational procedures.
- Activate weather warning systems and when required remotely unlocking electric doors and / or dispatching officers to open emergency storm shelters.
Work Schedule
Rotating schedule 4 or 5 day work weeks, 40 hours per week. Evening and night hours to include weekends and holidays.
Advertised Salary
46,000 Commensurate with experience.
