What are the responsibilities and job description for the RESEARCH AGRONOMIST position at North Dakota State University?
Description & Details : The North Dakota State University (NDSU) Langdon Research Extension Center (LREC) research agronomist will have overall agronomy research leadership responsibility for developing, implementing, and delivering outcomes of the agronomy research program at the LREC to our constituents. The agronomy research program includes a broad scope of projects that address factors limiting crop production for crops grown in North Dakota (ND) with an emphasis of crops grown in the northeastern part of the state. The research agronomist actively participates in the development and implementation of field research projects that includes research in crop inputs, pest management, plant nutrition, cultivar evaluation, soil health and new emerging technologies. The research agronomist has supervisory responsibilities for two research specialists dedicated to the agronomy research program. This is a permanent, non-tenure track position with opportunities for promotion.
The LREC is one of seven out of state NDSU research extension centers. The LREC is located one mile east of Langdon on ND highway five. Langdon is a city of 1,700 people with excellent health, educational and recreational opportunities with very low crime rate and a great place to raise a family. This area is known as the canola capital USA and is well known for its small grains and oilseed enterprises.
Work Schedule : Monday through Friday, 8 : 00am to 4 : 30pm with extra hours expected during the growing season.
Advertised Salary : Depends on Experience
Minimum Qualifications : Master of science degree in agronomy or a closely related field with experience conducting an applied field research program.
- Documented evidence of success preparing research proposals.
- Proof of success in obtaining extramural funding.
- Evidence of strong collaborations and on-going research with other research leaders, departments, agencies and commodity groups.
- Experience in the operation of small plot research and farm-scale equipment.
- Documented experience in field plot design and statistical analyses.
- Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to deliver information via modern media technologies.
A valid drivers license and commercial pesticide applicators license (or ability to obtain one).
Preferred Qualifications : Ph.D. in agronomy or a closely related field.
Documented research and extension experience working with northern plains crops with an emphasis on canola production.
Experience supervising multiple staff involved with agronomy or small plot research.
Core Competencies : Ability to plan and implement research projects and provide statistical analyses of the data.
