Senior Research Economist and Program Leader (10-month)

The Agricultural Risk Policy Center (ARPC) at North Dakota State University invites applications for a non-tenure track position as Senior Research Economist and Program Leader at the rank of Research Assistant / Associate Professor. This appointment offers an exciting opportunity to lead research initiatives related to agricultural risk management and market disruptions. The successful candidate will provide leadership in conducting high-level economic research, developing advanced econometric models, and producing actionable insights for policymakers and stakeholders.

This position also involves mentoring junior researchers, contributing to publications, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. The candidate will report directly to the ARPC Director and play a key role in shaping the future of agricultural policy research at the Center. This position can become permanent after a third-year review, depending on satisfactory performance. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications :

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, applied economics, or a related field. The candidate should possess substantial knowledge and experience in econometric modeling, U.S. agricultural policy, and the analysis of agricultural risks. The candidate must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. They should be able to present complex research findings clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences, including policymakers, stakeholders, and academic peers. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams is essential. The candidate should have experience working with diverse teams and a track record of successful teamwork on research projects.

Preferred Qualifications :

Candidates should have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and have demonstrated success in publishing research that contributes to agricultural economics or related fields. Experience in securing external funding for research projects is highly desirable. The candidate should have experience writing grant proposals and working on funded research projects. Candidates with advanced training in statistical and econometric methods, including machine learning techniques, will be preferred. The ability to apply these methods to agricultural policy analysis will be highly valued. Familiarity with U.S. agricultural policy and experience engaging with stakeholders in the agricultural sector will be a requirement. The candidate should demonstrate a capacity for translating research findings into actionable policy insights.
