Senior Research Economist (10-month, non-tenure track)

The Agricultural Risk Policy Center (ARPC) at North Dakota State University invites applications for a Senior Research Economist at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. This position targets recent Ph.D. graduates or early-career professionals with strong technical skills in agricultural economics, applied economics, or related fields. The role offers an exciting opportunity to conduct innovative research focused on agricultural risk management, market disruptions, and policy analysis.

The successful candidate will work on high-level economic research, developing advanced econometric and statistical models to produce actionable insights for policymakers and stakeholders. This position emphasizes technical expertise, particularly in econometrics, data analysis, and agricultural policy. The position is well-suited to individuals looking to establish themselves in academic and policy research, with the potential to become permanent after a third-year review, depending on satisfactory performance. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Ph.D. in agricultural economics, applied economics, economics, or a closely related field by the start date.
  • Strong technical skills in econometrics, statistical analysis, and experience with large datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex research findings to diverse audiences, including policymakers and stakeholders.
  • A track record (or evidence of potential) of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative research settings.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with U.S. agricultural policy, market disruptions, or related agricultural economic topics.
  • Familiarity with advanced econometric techniques.
  • Prior experience in securing external funding for research or participating in funded research projects.
  • Experience working on projects that involve policy engagement and outreach.
