Position Title : Finance Director

Classification : Full-time, exempt, salaried, benefits eligible
Hours : Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm with expected breaks; the occasional evening or weekend may be required
Primary Role : The Finance Director (FD) provides professional level finance support and leadership to the fiscal operations of the North East community Center (NECC), while working in daily concert with the Executive Director (ED), Grant / Contract Director, Administrative Director, and Treasurer / Finance Committee to ensure the smooth and accurate financial operations of the organization. This position requires the highest level of confidentiality, transparency, accuracy, and consistency. It also requires knowledge of and experience with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for nonprofit management and remaining up to date with the most current information and tools for non-profit fiscal management. It also requires direct interface with auditors and knowledge of auditing principles. Direct and ongoing communication with the Executive Director and at monthly Finance Committee meetings is required.
Leadership Responsibilities : The Finance Director is responsible for the accurate accounting (Fund EZ) of fiscal operations for all of NECC and its programs. This includes compliance with all grants, contracts, donor restrictions, laws, and regulations as they relate to NECC’s work. This position ensures that revenue is received with the utmost urgency, that expenses are tracked and weighed against budgets, and provides information to the ED, Finance Committee, and, on a regular basis, Program Directors, to guide decision making.
The FD will :
- Work with the Executive Director to develop budgets for the organization and its programs
- Monitor the overall budget, program budgets, and grant related budgets
- Provide balances, deficits, and other reporting information in a timely manner to the ED, Program Directors, and Finance Committee
- Maintain the annual budget tracking spreadsheets monthly
- Oversee and manage NECC’s 401K retirement plan
- Represent NECC with insurance providers, serving as a point of contact for D&O, liability and property, obtaining input and direction from the ED as necessary
- With input from the ED, Finance Committee, and Board as needed, work with auditors to ensure annual financials, 990s and CHAR500s are prepared and filed annually on time
- Monitor cash flow, informing the ED of instances where cash flow is tight, and working through our financial accounts and tools to ensure coverage of payroll and expenses using the appropriate procedures
- Prepare and carefully review all finance and fiscal documents for accuracy and consistency prior to submission to the ED, Finance Committee, funders, auditors, and others
- Work with Program Directors on scopes and budgets on every relevant Program grant, including implementation meetings, claiming and reporting deadlines, budget modifications and deadlines, and ensuring mileage and other necessary details are documented and claimed
- Supervises the duties of the Senior Fiscal Assistant, including handling of cash receipts, deposits, coding / filing of invoices and any other duties assigned
- Adopt new fiscal standards and procedures as needed
