Job Title: Non-Certified Elementary School Librarian
Location: North Harrison Elementary School
Job Type: Full-Time (up to 40 hours per week, 185 days per year)
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary: The Non-Certified Elementary School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library's resources, supporting the educational curriculum, and fostering a love of reading and learning among students. This role involves organizing library materials, assisting students and staff in locating and using resources, and promoting literacy and information skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Library Management:
- Organize and maintain the library's collection of books, periodicals, and digital resources.
- Catalog new materials and ensure accurate records of all library items.
- Manage the circulation of library materials, including check-outs, returns, and overdue notices.
- Support for Students and Staff:
- Assist students and staff in locating and using library resources effectively.
- Provide guidance on research methods and the use of library technologies.
- Encourage and support student reading habits and information literacy skills.
- Programming and Events:
- Plan and implement weekly lesson plans per grade level.
- Plan and implement library programs and events to promote reading and literacy, such as book fairs, reading challenges, and author visits.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
- Organize and lead library-related activities and clubs.
- Technology and Media:
- Maintain and update the library’s digital resources, including e-books and online databases.
- Assist students and staff in using library technology, including computers, tablets, and audio-visual equipment.
- Promote the ethical use of information and digital citizenship.
- Administrative Duties:
- Manage the library budget (in coordination with the Library supervisor), including the acquisition of new materials and supplies.
- Maintain a clean, welcoming, and organized library environment.
- Keep up with current trends in children's literature and library practices.
- Community Engagement:
- Foster a positive relationship with the school community, including parents and local organizations.
- Promote library services and programs through newsletters, social media, and school communications.
- Encourage volunteer participation in library activities and events.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in a library or educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with library management software and digital resources.
- Passion for working with children and promoting literacy.
