Job Summary:

The Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) will be responsible for leading individual and group counseling sessions for clients in the Chemical Health Outpatient Services program. This role involves conducting client intakes and admissions, performing assessments, developing treatment plans, and facilitating discharge and aftercare processes. The LADC will also monitor client progress, complete necessary documentation, and ensure compliance with all program policies, procedures, and governing regulations. Additional responsibilities include managing client funding, ensuring accurate weekly billing, and providing flexibility to assist with emergent or overflow chemical health assessments as needed.

  

Key Responsibilities:

Client Counseling and Support:

  • Lead individual and group counseling sessions for clients dealing with substance use and mental health issues.
  • Conduct thorough client assessments to identify treatment needs and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Provide ongoing counseling services, adjusting treatment plans as needed to ensure client progress and address emerging needs.
  • Adhere to confidentiality standards and mandatory reporting laws, maintaining ethical boundaries and client safety.
  • Coordinate with clients and their families to facilitate effective treatment planning, goal-setting, and aftercare planning.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Complete all required documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in an accurate, timely, and thorough manner.
  • Ensure that all client records are maintained in compliance with agency standards, licensure  requirements, and relevant legal regulations.
  • Adhere to appropriate paperwork timelines to ensure services can be billed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all required signatures and approvals are obtained for treatment documentation.

Billing and Client Funding Management:

  • Monitor client funding on a weekly basis to ensure accurate billing for services provided.
  • Maintain up-to-date records for client funding and assist in obtaining necessary financial documentation for client services.
  • Communicate with clients regarding funding, insurance, and payment options as necessary.

Training and Professional Development:

  • Participate in ongoing training and continuing education as required by the agency or licensure board.
  • Stay current on best practices in substance use treatment, adolescent development, and related areas.
  • Maintain and enhance professional knowledge to meet licensure and certification requirements.

Emergent Assessments and Flexibility:

  • Provide assistance with emergent and overflow chemical health assessments as needed to ensure the timely processing of client intakes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Chemical Health Director and other staff to address the evolving needs of the program and clients.

  

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based in an outpatient clinical setting, with a structured office environment.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate client needs or emergencies.
  • The role involves regular interaction with clients who may have substance use issues, requiring sensitivity and professionalism in potentially stressful or emotional situations.
  • Some travel may be required for client outreach or to attend training sessions.

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Licensure:

  • Current licensure as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.
  • For those providing treatment services to adolescents, must have:
    • An additional 30 hours of classroom instruction or one three-credit semester college course in adolescent development (completed once).
    • At least 150 hours of supervised experience as an adolescent counselor, either as a student or as a staff member.

Experience & Skills:

  • A cleared Department of Human Services background study.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, client-centered environment while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Proficient in documentation, including treatment planning and progress notes.
  • Non-judgmental approach to diverse lifestyles, backgrounds, and experiences of clients.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid Minnesota Driver's License and reliable transportation.

  

Physical Requirements:

  • The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking during counseling sessions and client meetings.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., office supplies, client files).
  • Ability to focus on clients for extended periods while maintaining mental and emotional resilience.


Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
