Under the direction of the clinical supervisor, the Mental Health Practitioner is responsible for providing direct mental health services in the school setting to improve functioning.
Coordination / Communication
- Develop, maintain and utilize both written and verbal communication skills.
- Handle various aspects of the family and school coordination and communication with respects to the program.
- Work with school staff and other outside agencies in a professional and responsible manner on behalf of the client.
Client & Family Interaction
Adhere to confidentiality and mandatory reporting laws.Create and implement a mental health treatment plan that is reviewed and approved by the clinical supervisor.Provide resources and education for families, client and school staff in an effort to improve educational functioning.Identify current strengths and needs relevant to the client.Documentation and Training
Complete all paperwork in an appropriate, accurate and timely manner and according to agency guidelines.Attend all continuing education and training, as mandated by the agency or licensor.Adhere to appropriate paperwork timelines so services can be billed appropriately and timely.Ensure all documents have proper signatures.All Other Duties As Assigned
Other duties may be assigned to this position periodically depending on the needs of the agency and / or Human Resources Director.
Requirements :
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Qualified Mental Health PractitionerRelevant Coursework
30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences / related fieldsAND one of the following :
2,000 hours of supervised experience in delivery of servicesIs fluent in non-English language of the clientele ethnic group…Is working in day treatment programHas completed a practicum or internship that focuses on direct interaction with adults or children served, and is focused on behavioral sciences or related fieldsWork Experience
4,000 hours of supervised experience in delivery of services2,000 hours of supervised experience in delivery of servicesAND receives clinical supervision as required by applicable statutes and rules from a mental health professional at least once a week until the requirement of 4,000 hours of supervised experience is metGraduate Student Internship
Is a graduate student in behavioral sciences or related fieldsand is formally assigned by an accredited college or university to an agency or facility for clinical trainingBachelor’s or Master’s Degree
Holds a master’s or graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fieldsHolds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or related fieldsAND completes a practicum or internship that requires direct interaction with adults or children served and is focused on behavioral sciences or related fieldsVendor of medical care
Knowledge of parenting skills, child care methods, child development, home management and housekeeping skills, etc.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.Good decision making skills and the ability to work with minimal direction.Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills required.Ability to work with resistant clients; be non-judgmental in regards to lifestyles and / or economic status.Desire to work with high-risk youth and families in crisis.
