POSITION: Academic Coach

 

IMMEDIATE

SUPERVISOR: Deputy Superintendent for Instructional Support

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

 

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code

  • 18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by JCBOE.
  • Contract 210 days

SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code § l8A-4-2, in accordance with

Jefferson County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level.  Position is contingent up available Federal Funding

 

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State

Code § l8A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation

Policy

 

JOB SUMMARY: Provide high-quality information and research-based guidance to other instructional staff members and demonstrate effective teaching techniques in classrooms to improve teacher quality and student learning in Jefferson County Schools.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with principals and teachers to implement effective strategies based on exemplary practices.
  • Model and collaborate with teachers in implementing effective teaching and learning strategies for teachers and other instructional staff.
  • Team teach with teachers in demonstrating and modeling high-yield instructional practices, strategies, and resources.
  • Collaborate with grade-level and content-based teams to analyze data and plan effective curricular initiatives and interventions.
  • Provide consistent consultation regarding effective, research-based instructional strategies, curricula, and resources.
  • Meet with teachers and collaborative teams to facilitate lesson and unit planning.
  • Observe teachers for coaching and feedback on instructional practice and strategies.
  • Design and implement whole-group and job-embedded professional development related to content, pedagogy, and other educational topics as required.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by building principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Teaching Certificate with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or related educational field
  • Have no fewer than five (5) years of successful teaching experience
  • Have thorough knowledge and understanding of the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards for assigned programmatic level
  • Have thorough knowledge and understanding of West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards to support high-quality instructional practices in all classrooms
  • Have thorough knowledge and understanding of the analysis of performance and assessment data, including West Virginia General Summative Assessments, interim assessments, STAR, and other formative and summative assessments, to facilitate meaningful interpretation and decision making to impact teaching and learning

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach,

the employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 10 pounds of materials.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/ technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).

A successful work history and a minimum of three supervisory references required for consideration.
