NJDWSC has an immediate opening at our offices in Wanaque, NJ, for a Distribution Mechanical Maintenance Worker to join the Mechanical Systems Maintenance department. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the continued reliable delivery of the highest-quality potable water to the over 3.5 million residents of Northern New Jersey.

General Purpose:
Under direction of the Manager of Distribution Mechanical Maintenance the person in this position will maintain all plumbing fixtures and systems, as well as, all piping and piping equipment, in-house, as well as at satellite sites and the distribution aqueduct. Other tasks may include repairing roof exhaust fans (pulleys, bearings, V-belts), air handlers, some heating equipment, and maintenance of boiler systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the industrial/commercial Piping/Mechanical trades (HVAC, millwright, machinist, pipefitter, plumbing).
· Should be proficient in repair and maintenance of chemical process equipment. This equipment includes, but not limited to, Sodium Hypo Chloride, Lime, PACL, Alum and Polymer and Carbon feeders. This position requires a complete understanding of equipment processes along with trouble-shooting skills and repairing failures in a timely manner.
· Must have an understanding of centrifugal, progressive cavity, rotary, de-watering, grinder, gear, diaphragm pumps, and more. In addition, must be capable of repairing/replacing mechanical seals, pump seals, pump packing’s, couplings and inserts.
· Must be able to complete motor to pump alignments.
· Must have an understanding of various types of valves and valve actuators. Hydraulic knowledge of motors, controllers, presses, dredges a huge plus.
· Ability to read, interpret and work from plans, blueprints, drawings and specifications.
· Should have strong working knowledge of the tools, machines, equipment and materials of the Maintenance department.
· Must possess a valid New Jersey Drivers’ License.
· Willingness to work “outside of your craft” to support all ongoing and future projects and other crews.
· Must be able to work in a diverse environment, and be able to resolve any personnel issues in a professional, timely and calm manner.
· Must be willing to work closely with others and maintain a level headedness during emergencies. Must be able to communicate with others clearly, take direction keeping safety in mind at all times.
· Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
· Must be available by PTT radio and cell phone during shifts, any time and every day, in support of a 24/7 Operations environment.
Minimum Education/Training:
· High School Diploma/GED.
· Previous training, such as, but not limited to: Confined Space, Conduct, Lockout-Tagout, Ethics Training, and other safety training as required. Journeyman experience.
Physical Requirements:
· Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighting up to 50 pounds.
· Frequently bends, twists, kneels, crawls and crouches. Continuous walking, standing and moving about.
· Will work in confined spaces in an industrial plant environment with potential exposure to various chemicals, noise, and extremes in temperature/humidity.
· Repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs.
· Exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, odors, dirt and dust.
· May drive company vehicle when needed.
· Ability to navigate uneven surfaces.
· Ability to navigate working in unusually loud conditions.
Ability to work underground or with unusual heights.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
