North Kern South Tulare Hospital District is seeking a dedicated and professional full-time Medical Receptionist to join our team at the Gloria Nelson Center. As a vital member of our healthcare delivery system, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, both in person and over the phone. Key responsibilities include welcoming patients and guiding them to the appropriate services, scheduling appointments, managing the appointment calendar, and conducting preliminary assessments to determine the appropriate payment categories for patients before they meet with a provider. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a customer-focused attitude, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a professional and welcoming first point of contact for patients, whether in person or over the phone, by answering calls, directing inquiries to the appropriate staff, and addressing questions about our services, payment options, and billing procedures.
- Efficiently manage appointment scheduling by coordinating, rescheduling, and modifying patient appointments while verifying insurance benefits and collecting comprehensive patient demographic information to ensure a seamless experience.
- Conduct patient registration for clinic visits in accordance with established protocols, ensuring accurate and complete data entry for all patients.
- Obtain and verify copies of patient identification and insurance cards in alignment with clinic policy, maintaining compliance and organization.
- Participate in daily cash drawer audits at the commencement and conclusion of business operations, adhering to clinic policies to ensure accuracy and accountability.
- Process patient payments for co-pays, services rendered, and outstanding accounts receivable using approved payment methods, ensuring a smooth financial transaction process.
- Collaborate with the Office Manager to manage office supply inventory, placing orders as necessary to maintain an efficient workspace.
- Prepare and submit written and oral reports or recommendations to the Office Manager regarding the operational effectiveness of the Rural Health Clinic, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Actively participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance projects as requested, supporting the clinic’s commitment to high-quality care.
- Other duties as assigned
- Assist during facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies or payer programs as directed, ensuring compliance and readiness.
- Execute various administrative tasks, including completing forms, reports, evaluations, and studies as requested to support clinic operations.
- Adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and maintain technical and physical safeguards to protect patient confidentiality and sensitive information.
- Efficiently send and receive documents through various channels, including fax, email, or written communications, maintaining clear and organized communication with patients and staff.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Completion of formal training from a vocational school (Preferred)
- Certification from a recognized board, such as NCCT (Preferred)
- Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience (Preferred)
- At least 1 year of computer proficiency (Preferred)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in insurance verification (Preferred)
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8a-5pm
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $17.00-$22.00
