Varsity Girls Basketball Coach
JOB TITLE: Head Varsity Basketball Coach
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
- The head varsity basketball coach will handle all aspects of the high school basketball program. The coach will also assist with coordinating of the middle school program to help develop the feeder system for the high school program. The coach is responsible for teaching the athletes techniques, skills, and strategies that prepare the athletes for competition.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hold organizational meetings for team recruitment.
- Develop a pre-season schedule for the athletes that includes; conditioning, strength
training and skill development.
- Work with the administration to develop the season schedule.
- Work with the administrative assistant to ensure all essential paperwork and
information is turned in to the athletic department.
- Conduct tryouts for the basketball program.
- Develop practice plans and schedules to help the players develop.
- Coach and instruct players regarding the rules, regulations, and skills of the game.
- Develop individual and team strategies for the season based on personnel.
- Monitor the academic progress of the student-athletes.
- Work with the athletic trainer to help injured athletes return to practice/play.
- Model good sportsmanship and appropriate conduct and expect the same from the
players.
- Maintain good standing with the NLCS, HHC, IHSAA, and IBCA.
- Develop a social media presence.
- Work with local media to promote the sport.
- Complete the end-of-season checklist in a timely manner.
- Host end-of-season banquet or event for players (parents also if desired).
- Promote student-athletes for postseason awards (HHC, All-State, Academic All-State)
- Assist the athletic director with hosting IHSAA events.
- Coordinate off-season training opportunities for athletes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a head or assistant coach is preferred.
- Experience as a player is preferred.
- Knowledge of the techniques, strategies, and skills of basketball.
- Ability to recruit and motivate players.
- A passion for working with student-athletes and for basketball.
