Position Summary:

The Varsity Cheer Coach will be expected to oversee practices, competitions, and game day performances, while ensuring a positive and inclusive environment for all team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Skill Development: Coach and mentor varsity cheerleaders in cheerleading fundamentals, stunts, tumbling, choreography, and performance routines for competitive events and school functions.
Team Preparation: Plan, organize, and lead team practices that focus on building individual and team skills, enhancing physical fitness, and developing a strong sense of team spirit and unity.
Game Day Leadership: Direct and manage cheerleading performances during high school sports events, pep rallies, and school spirit activities. Ensure cheerleaders are prepared, confident, and ready to represent the school with enthusiasm.
Competition Readiness: Develop competitive routines for cheerleading competitions, ensuring team members are prepared for local, regional, and possibly national events. Coordinate travel and logistics for competitions as necessary.
Team Building: Foster an environment of respect, sportsmanship, and collaboration. Encourage team bonding and leadership development within the squad.
Communication with Parents & Administration: Maintain regular communication with parents, school administration, and athletic staff regarding team progress, upcoming events, and any concerns.
Recruitment & Selection: Participate in the recruitment process, helping to select new team members each year. Ensure the selection process is fair, inclusive, and aligns with the school's goals for the cheerleading program.
Safety & Injury Prevention: Ensure all cheerleading activities, including stunting and tumbling, are conducted safely and according to established safety guidelines. Work closely with athletic trainers or other healthcare staff to monitor the health and safety of team members.
Student-Athlete Academic Support: Encourage and monitor academic progress of cheerleaders, ensuring they maintain eligibility for participation. Promote the importance of balancing academics and athletics.
Maintain Equipment & Budget: Oversee the maintenance and proper use of cheerleading uniforms, equipment, and other materials. Work with the athletic department to manage the cheerleading budget and ensure necessary resources are available for the team.
Qualifications:
Previous coaching experience, preferably as a cheerleading coach or in a leadership role with cheerleading teams (required).
Strong knowledge of cheerleading skills, choreography, stunting, tumbling, and competitive routines.
A passion for working with high school students and promoting school spirit, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire athletes, creating a positive and high-energy environment.
Ability to manage time effectively and commit to the necessary hours for practices, games, and competitions.
