Summary
Maintains highways, city stormwater system, municipal and rural roads, and rights-of-way in safe condition. Takes initiative to support and aid other departments of the city.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs construction and maintenance of streets and roadways
- Operates and maintains heavy equipment
- Performs cement work on flat surfaces
- Performs in a variety of street maintenance projects and road work
- Performs minor maintenance on equipment; performs emergency repairs on equipment
- Regularly loads and unloads trucks, cleans curbs, gutters, installing fences and manual labor
- Uses, maintains, and repairs various hand tools
- Participates in work site safety procedures and ensures safety for the community
- Aids in the maintenance and construction of the city's stormwater system, along with helping maintain compliance with State stormwater laws, policies, and procedures
- Maintains simple, routine records of work performed
- Performs winter snow removal operations; operates sand and salt truck
- Performs general labor duties in support of the Public Works Department
- Performs minor duties related to general construction and welding
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.[1]

Qualifications
- Experience in relevant areas
- Must be willing to work shift schedules on-call and 24-hour standby
- Must possess a Class A CDL or the ability to receive one within 3 months
Working Conditions and Physical Demands While performing these duties, the employee is regularly required to communicate; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. While performing these duties, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, traffic, and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent hazardous exposure.
