Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Assistant Track and Field Coach to support the Head Coach in leading and developing the track and field program. The ideal candidate will have experience in track and field coaching or playing, a strong understanding of the sport, and a commitment to promoting student-athlete development both on and off the track. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to enhance athlete performance, foster a positive team culture, and help student-athletes develop essential life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
The Assistant Track and Field Coach will be responsible for assisting with practice planning, meet preparation, and individual athlete development across various events, including sprints, distance, jumps, and throws. The successful candidate must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Assist in Leadership and Mentorship:
•Support the Head Coach in providing guidance and mentorship to athletes, emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
•Encourage athletes to build self-confidence, resilience, and teamwork both during practices and in competitions.
2.Assist in Practice and Meet Preparation:
•Assist in planning and conducting daily practices, ensuring that all events (sprints, distance, jumps, throws) are adequately covered.
•Support athletes in preparing for competitions, including developing event-specific strategies and assisting with mental and physical preparation.
3.Support Athlete Development:
•Work with individual athletes to help them develop their skills in track and field events, providing technical instruction and feedback.
•Identify areas for improvement and help athletes reach their full potential in both individual and team performances.
4.Education-Based Athletics:
•Support the Head Coach in ensuring athletes maintain academic eligibility and understand the importance of balancing academics with athletics.
•Communicate with parents and school staff about the academic and athletic progress of student-athletes.
5.Promote Team Culture and Sportsmanship:
•Foster an inclusive, supportive, and motivating team environment.
•Promote positive sportsmanship, ethical behavior, and respect among athletes, both on and off the field.
6.Communication:
•Assist in maintaining open and consistent communication with athletes, parents, school administration, and the athletic department.
•Help provide regular updates to parents regarding practice schedules, meets, and team expectations.
7.Safety and Wellness:
•Ensure that proper safety protocols are followed during practices and meets, including injury prevention techniques and use of equipment.
•Promote athlete wellness, including proper recovery strategies, nutrition, and mental health awareness.
8.Compliance with NFHS and MIAA Requirements:
•Ensure that all coaching certifications are up to date and comply with NFHS and MIAA regulations, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
•Previous experience in track and field, either as a coach or athlete, with a solid understanding of event-specific techniques and training methods.
•Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches to support athlete development and team success.
•Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
•Ability to assist with individual and group training, across a variety of events.
•Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA requirements, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
•Previous coaching experience in track and field at the high school or youth level.
•Experience working with athletes of varying skill levels and supporting their development in a multi-event program.
•Previous playing or coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level.
•Experience with training principles, injury prevention, and athlete recovery strategies.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
