Job Description:
North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Junior Varsity Boys Volleyball Coach to lead and develop our student-athletes at the JV level. The ideal candidate will have experience coaching or playing volleyball and a commitment to fostering the growth and development of athletes both on and off the court. This position emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and the importance of balancing athletics and academics.
The JV Boys Volleyball Coach will work closely with the Varsity Coach to ensure alignment within the program and to prepare athletes for potential advancement to the varsity level. The successful candidate must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements and adhere to the school’s educational philosophy.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Athlete Development:
•Plan and conduct practices focusing on skill development, game strategies, and physical conditioning.
•Work with athletes to improve individual techniques, including serving, passing, setting, hitting, and defensive play.
•Help athletes build confidence and encourage their development as players and teammates.
2.Team Leadership:
•Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, discipline, and respect.
•Serve as a role model for athletes, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm.
3.Game Preparation:
•Prepare the team for games by developing strategies, creating lineups, and ensuring players understand game plans.
•Ensure athletes are mentally and physically prepared for competition, emphasizing teamwork and effort.
4.Collaboration with Varsity Program:
•Work closely with the Varsity Coach to align the JV program with the overall goals and philosophy of the boys’ volleyball program.
•Support the development of athletes to ensure readiness for advancement to the varsity level.
5.Education-Based Athletics:
•Promote the importance of academics and ensure athletes maintain eligibility according to school and MIAA guidelines.
•Communicate with athletes and parents about the importance of balancing academic and athletic responsibilities.
6.Promote Sportsmanship and Character:
•Encourage good sportsmanship and ethical behavior on and off the court.
•Teach life skills such as leadership, communication, time management, and teamwork through the sport of volleyball.
7.Safety and Wellness:
•Ensure all safety protocols are followed during practices and games, including injury prevention techniques.
•Promote wellness, proper nutrition, and mental health support for student-athletes.
8.Communication:
•Maintain regular communication with athletes, parents, school staff, and the athletic department.
•Provide updates on team progress, practice schedules, and game details.
9.Compliance with NFHS and MIAA Requirements:
•Ensure that all coaching certifications and training are up to date, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
•Previous experience in volleyball, either as a coach or player, with strong knowledge of the game and its fundamentals.
•Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
•Ability to work collaboratively with the Varsity Coach and other staff.
•Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Previous coaching experience at the high school or youth level.
•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
•Experience working with student-athletes to promote both athletic and personal growth.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
