Job Description:
The North Middlesex School District is seeking passionate, dedicated, and experienced Outdoor Track Coaches to lead student-athletes at each of the district’s middle schools (grades 5-8). Coaches will focus on developing foundational athletic skills, fostering personal growth, and teaching life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
Each coach will create a positive, inclusive environment where students of all skill levels are encouraged to explore their potential both on and off the track. Coaches will collaborate with parents, caregivers, and school staff to ensure student-athletes thrive in academics, athletics, and personal development.
Successful candidates must meet all NFHS and MIAA coaching requirements and align with the educational and developmental philosophy of the North Middlesex School District’s athletic program.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Life Skills Development:
•Use track and field as a platform to teach essential skills such as teamwork, discipline, goal-setting, and perseverance.
•Encourage athletes to carry these skills into their academic and personal lives.
2.Education-Based Athletics:
•Emphasize the importance of balancing academics and athletics.
•Work closely with teachers, parents, and staff to monitor and support student-athletes’ academic success.
3.Skill Development and Physical Fitness:
•Design age-appropriate practice plans for developing skills in track events (e.g., sprints, distance, jumps, and throws).
•Promote physical fitness, conditioning, and injury prevention.
4.Team Culture and Sportsmanship:
•Build a positive, inclusive team environment where all athletes feel supported and valued.
•Teach and model good sportsmanship, respect, and ethical behavior during practices and meets.
5.Safety and Wellness:
•Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including proper warm-ups, cool-downs, hydration, and injury prevention.
•Be prepared to respond to injuries or emergencies and follow district protocols.
6.Communication:
•Maintain open communication with parents, administration, and staff regarding schedules, practices, and competitions.
•Partner with parents to support the overall development of student-athletes.
7.Recruitment and Engagement:
•Encourage student participation in the track program, promoting it as a fun and inclusive activity for all skill levels.
•Foster excitement and retention among athletes throughout their middle school careers.
8.Meet Preparation and Management:
•Organize and lead practices that prepare athletes for competitions, ensuring readiness both mentally and physically.
•Coordinate with other middle schools and district staff to host and participate in meets that adhere to MIAA guidelines.
9.Adhere to NFHS and MIAA Requirements:
•Fulfill all coaching certifications, training, and regulations required by NFHS and MIAA, including Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion Management, First Aid, CPR, and Ethics Training.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
•Experience coaching or participating in track and field or similar athletic activities.
•Strong knowledge of track fundamentals, including running, jumping, and throwing techniques.
•Ability to mentor and support middle school athletes (grades 5-8), focusing on sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
•Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
•Familiarity with NFHS and MIAA requirements, including:
•NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Certification
•NFHS Concussion in Sports Certification
•First Aid & CPR Certification
•MIAA Coaching Education Program
•Background Check (CORI/SORI)
Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field.
•Previous experience coaching middle school athletes or working with youth populations.
•Proven ability to inspire and motivate students to develop a love for fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
•Experience working with diverse student populations.
Salary:
Per NMRSD Teacher Contract.
